Dr. Amina L. Abubakar Bello was born on the 17th of May, 1973 into the family of Gen. A. Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd) and Honorable Justice Fati L. Abubakar. She completed her primary education at Command Children School, Kaduna in 1983 before proceeding to Federal Government Girls College, Bakori from 1984 to 1990 where she obtained her Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE).
Her constant yearn to assist humanity leads her to study medicine at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Kaduna State to obtain her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree and graduated in the year 2000. Due to her passion to acquire more knowledge she preceded to the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom to obtain another master degree, this time in Public Health.
As a house officer, she was engaged at Ahmadu Bello University teaching Hospital, Kaduna from 2001-2002. She undertook the mandatory one year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at FOMWAN Hospital, Kaduna from 2002 -2003. Between 2004 and 2009, she served as a Junior Registrar in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital Zaria and rose to a Senior Registrar. She became a Fellow West Africa College of Surgeons in 2012.
Her research work which contributes tremendously to her profile includes research on several aspects of Maternal mortality and reproductive health. She has done some work on unsafe abortion, family planning and primary health care centres. She further strengthens her knowledge by undertaking courses and attending seminars around the globe. She holds membership of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), and Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN).
She is the founder of RAiSE foundation a non-governmental organization which aims at achieving a Nigeria where no woman dies of pregnancy related causes. Her foundation has conducted free VVF surgeries for 19 women, free breast cancer screening for 300 women, free cataract surgeries for more that 250 people and she works for free at the General Hospital Minna.
Her activities have earned her recognition both at the national and international level. She is a nutrition champion which was bestowed on her by the CS-SUN, the Ambassador of family planning by and flag bearer of family planning in Nigeria by USAID in collaboration with Marie Stoops foundation and she is the patron of the forum for Health professionals in Niger state.
The Federal Ministry of Health in collaboration with USAID made her one of their Family Planning Champions.
Dr. Amina L. Abubakar is happily married to Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello and blessed with three children. Her hobbies are solving puzzles, reading and spending time with her family.
